What does an Enhanced DBS check include?
An Enhanced DBS check contains everything in a Standard check: spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings, plus any information held by local police forces that is considered relevant to the role.
For roles in regulated activity, the check can also include the children's and adults' barred lists, confirming whether an applicant is barred from working with those groups.
Who needs one?
Enhanced checks are legally required or expected for roles such as:
- Teachers, teaching assistants and school staff

Eligibility rules apply
Enhanced DBS checks can only be requested for roles that are eligible in law, normally through an employer or a registered body. Individuals cannot apply for their own Enhanced check.
